What is a private career school?  What ones are in the area?

Private career schools are technical schools that are run to make money. They are sometimes easier to get into, they may offer just what you need, and you can usually finish up sooner.

The State of Wisconsin has a directory of approved private career schools you can look at here.

Portions of this publication are in Adobe Acrobat format.

But just because a school is on the list doesn’t mean it’s good or right for you.

The State suggests asking questions like these when looking at any private career school:

  • Is the school approved to run?
  • How do they decide who gets in?
  • Does the program offer the training you need?
  • What does the training facility have to offer?
  • What are the teachers' qualifications?
  • Does the school help you get a job?
  • What other help do they give?
  • How much does the program cost?
  • Can you get help paying for it?
  • What is the refund policy?
  • Can you get a catalog?
