Who can get the Earned Income Credit (EIC)?

You can probably get the EIC for 2004 if all of the following were true:

  • You were a U.S. citizen or resident alien for the whole year
  • You got less than $2,650 from interest and investments
  • When you file your taxes, you don’t use “married filing separately”
  • If you didn’t have kids living with you, you (or your husband/wife, if you have one) were 25 to 64 years old at the end of the year
  • You (and your husband/wife, if you have one) made less than:
$11,490   (if you had no kids living with you)
$30,340   (if you had one kid living with you -- $31,340 if you're married)
$34,460   (if you had two or more kids living with you -- $35,460 if you're married)

Which kids count?
