How can you get the Earned Income Credit (EIC) at the end of the year?

By filing FEDERAL and STATE tax returns and getting a refund!

For 2004:

• If you don’t have any kids living with you,
  • file Form 1040EZ or Form 1040A or Form 1040 with the IRS.
  • (There is no Wisconsin EIC for people who don’t have kids living with them.)
     
• If you do have kids living with you,
  • file Form 1040A or Form 1040, AND Schedule EIC with the IRS
  • file Form 1A or Form 1 with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.

Need help with tax returns?

For 2003, 2002, or 2001:

• If you did not file tax returns for that year, you can still file (just like it says above). You have until April 15, 2005 to file for 2001.
• If you did file a tax return for a year, you can still go back and get the credit:
  • File Form 1040X AND Schedule EIC
  • File Form 1X (if you had kids living with you that year). There are separate Wisconsin Form 1X forms for each year.
  • 2003
  • 2002
  • 2001
