How do you apply to get Food Stamps?

  1. Pick an application office in the county where you live:

  2. Call to see if you need to make an appointment.

  3. Pull together what you need to take:
    1. Proof of when you were born (like your birth certificate).
    2. Something that shows where you live (driver's license, utility bill, rent receipt).
    3. Proof of Social Security Number for everyone in your household.
    4. For anyone who's not a citizen, proof of INS status.
    5. Proof of the money you and others in your household make and get (like pay stubs and benefit letters).
    6. Proof of what you pay for rent (or mortgage) and utilities and child care.
    7. Bank statements for your checking and savings accounts.

You can apply for health coverage and help with child care at the same place, so you might want to take that information too!
